Date: 10/04/1997 Sighs of relief all round in Brussels that the UK's ambassador to the EU Sir Stephen Wall has abandoned his rather menacing hairstyle, a sort of tough-guy crew cut with long sideburns. The crop emerged late last year, triggering speculation that it was a work-related move in line with the UK government's increasingly aggressive stance in the Intergovernmental Conference. Now it has grown out a bit. Could it be that the softer look is in anticipation of a softer approach to Europe by an incoming (possibly) Labour administration? |
