Date: 19/11/1998 Egyptian Prime Minister Hosni Mubarak has reportedly found a way to hit back at countries which voted for anti-dumping duties on imports of Egyptian cotton. At a sewage works opening in Egypt attended by EU member state delegates, Mubarak warned darkly that he would find ways to block French and Italian exports into his country. Empty threats in the heat of the moment? Maybe, but since then Austrian exporters have started reporting all kinds of problems in getting their goods into the north African state. Seasoned EU watchers will recall that Austria was amongst those countries which voted for the contentious duties. |
