In a speech to the Royal United Services Institute, UK Secretary of State for Defence Des Browne, 19 September 2006, spoken of the challenges faced by British and NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Britain's allies were accused of not doing enough to help Nato's mission in Afghanistan despite Poland's recent announcement that it was sending 1,000 soldiers to the country. 'Some [Nato countries] have doubts that the mission will succeed,' Des Browne, defence secretary, told the Royal United Services Institute. 'Others, candidly, have more direct concerns about the level of risk they are prepared to expose their soldiers to.'
