Summary:Agreement between the European Union (EU) and Bangladesh on certain aspects of air services - Horizontal Aviation Agreement. Further information:Following a judgment from the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), the Council of the European Union authorised the European Commission to open negotiations with third countries on the replacement of certain provisions in existing bilateral air services agreement with an agreement at EU level - the horizontal authorisation. The objectives of such agreement are to give all EU air carriers non-discriminatory access to routes between the EU and third countries, and hence to bring bilateral air services agreements between Member States and third countries in line with EU law. The talks with Bangladesh were successfully concluded with the initialling of the Agreement on 27 February 2015. The European Commission published proposals for signing and concluding the Agreement on 7 September 2015. The Council of the European Union adopted the Decision on signing the Agreement on 14 December. However, this Council Decision was not published in the Official Journal until 26 June 2024, alongside the main text of the Agreement. |
