EurActiv reported on 5 June 2014 that the EU was anxious to finalise talks with Africa over a planned Economic Partnership Agreement.

If negotiators did not seal the deal by 1 October 2014, according to the website, preferential access to the EU's internal market would be cut short, putting pressure on African negotiators, who felt their concerns were not being heard.
