Aerial skirmishing overshadows EU summit

The European Council due to take place in Thessaloniki, Greece, from 20-21 June 2003 is being overshadowed by aerial skirmishes between Turkish and Greek military aircraft. These incidents are the continuation of a dispute between Greece and Turkey over control of the Aegean Sea. Like much of the international community, Turkey does not accept Greek definitions of its air space boundaries which Greece sets wider than its territorial waters.
