The European Parliament's plenary session adopted on 27 April 2017 its Opinion on a proposal aiming at closing down 'hybrid mismatches' with the tax systems of third countries. The Parliament's economic and monetary affairs had first approved the position on 27 March.

The draft law was put forward by the European Commission in October 2016, as part of a package of proposals aiming to overhaul the way in which companies are taxed in the Single Market. The Council of the European Union adopted its initial position on the proposal in February 2017 and was expected to formally endorse the draft law following the Parliament's Opinion.
