Acebes presenta la primera iniciativa europea conjunta de lucha contra la inmigración ilegal [Acebes presents the first joint European initiative in the fight against illegal immigration]

The Spanish Interior Minister, Ángel Acebes, presented the first joint European initiative to fight illegal immigration on 28 January 2003. The pilot project, known as 'Operation Ulysses' would involve the control of maritime frontiers, firstly in the Western Mediterranean and later in the Atlantic Ocean, by boats from several European countries, with the aim of preventing illegal immigration and trafficking in human beings.
