Date: 03/10/1996 Entre Nous can report that Wim Duisenberg, the future Dutch president of the European Monetary Institute, is finally breaking radio silence to address the world ... almost. After turning down all requests for interviews, he has decided to reveal his thoughts on EMU - but not to any of the myriad of journalists and broadcasters anxious to quiz him on his views. Instead, Duisenberg is going to explain the single currency to a class of ten-year-olds. A date and venue have not yet been set, but a group of lucky, unsuspecting Dutch kids is about to learn the joys of the Euro, monetary targeting and optimal currency areas. “He was a very good teacher when he was at the University of Amsterdam,” says a colleague, adding: “If anyone can do it, he can.” |
