Summary:Communication adopted by the European Commission on 14 July 2021, outlining supplementary actions aimed at supporting the rapid deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure. Further information:TheĀ European Green Deal committed to a 90% cut in transport greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, in line with the requirement to achieve climate neutrality in the European Union (EU). As a result, the European Commission's Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy makes it a key priority to boost the uptake of zero- and low-emission vehicles, renewable and low-carbon fuels and related infrastructure for all modes of transport. In this context, it is important that regional disparities in the deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure are addressed. The proposed Regulation on the deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure (AFIR) is a key policy initiative to achieve that ambition. This Communication was adopted by the European Commission on 14 July 2023 alongside the draft law and as part of theĀ Fit for 55 legislative package to outline a set of supplementary actions seeking to support the rapid rollout of alternative fuels infrastructure. |
