Introduction:

"State aid control is a part of competition policy only in the EU and the European Free Trade Association. Its aim is to avoid distortions of competition as well as to limit inefficient government spending. The EU regulation on this topic allows only certain types of aid. Despite these limitations, 0.6% of the aggregated GDP is still spent on state aid in the EU in 2009."
"This article is organised as follows: the next section contains a review of literature on the determinants of concentration. In Section C, we describe our framework and data. The empirical analysis and results are presented in Section D. Section E concludes."
