Meetings of the EU-Tajikistan Cooperation Council:

The sixth Cooperation Council between Tajikistan and the European Union was held on 15 May 2017.

The Council reaffirmed the commitment of both sides to strengthen relations in a number of cooperation areas, and took stock of the progress made since the previous meeting. The EU reaffirmed its support for the country, in the framework of the EU-Central Asia strategy.

The meetings also focused on the economic challenges facing Tajikistan and the security threaths from violent extremism. The EU emphasised the need for the country to ensure the respect for the rule of law, fundamental freedoms and human rights.
