In 2010, the European Convention on Human Rights - the Council of Europe’s flagship treaty protecting basic human rights and fundamental freedoms in 47 member states of the Council of Europe – is celebrating its 60th anniversary.

On this occasion, the Directorate of Communication of the Council of Europe has issued a new leaflet highlighting the impact of this convention on citizens' lives and its importance in the development of international law.

The publication also shows the achievements of the European Court of Human Rights, the convention’s monitoring organ.
