Further information and background: On 12 April, 12000 people marched from Auschwitz to Birkenau. The 30th edition of the March of the Living included 110 delegations from 41 countries and an honorary delegation of 70 Holocaust survivors. The March was led by Israeli president. Officials also included Polish President, Israeli Prime Minister as well as heads of other Israeli agencies. This March takes place only two months after Poland passed a controversial law on February 6 that makes it a criminal offense to accuse the Polish state or people of involvement or responsibility for the Holocaust. The March is part of a 5 days educational program comprising visits to concentration camps, museums. The goal of the March is to help participants fight indifference, racism and injustice. Since its creation in 1988 more than 260000 people from 52 countries have taken part in the March of the Living.12000 people March from Auschwitz to Birkenau on Holocaust Remembrance Day. |
