Summary:Report published by the European Commission on 8 September 2021, comprising its second annual Strategic Foresight Report. Further information:This report presents a forward-looking and multidisciplinary perspective on the European Union's open strategic autonomy in an increasingly multipolar and contested global order. The Commission identified four main global trends affecting the EU's capacity and freedom to act: climate change and other environmental challenges; digital hyper-connectivity and technological transformation; pressure on democracy and value; and shifts in the global order and demography. It also set out 10 key areas of action where the EU can seize opportunities to exercise its autonomy and leadership. The report contributes to inform the Commission's work programmes. |
