Summary: The cases included were chosen because they clarify or advance an aspect of primary EU law or secondary EU law of general interest, or because they address a point of EU law that is relevant to the Brexit/Future Relationship negotiations. Omitted from the briefing are intra-institutional proceedings, most Commission enforcement proceedings, and any other proceedings regarding very detailed and sector-specific EU secondary legislation. The briefing is organised first by subject area of EU law, and secondly by date of the relevant judgments. The subject areas were identified as most common in previous years’ CJEU case law; an empty ‘subject area’ heading simply means that no cases in 2020 in that subject area have been decided (yet) at the time of publication. At this time, it includes a selection of cases ruled upon between 1 January 2020 and 30 June 2020. |
