Summary:Regulation (EU) 2024/2838 - adopted by the co-legislators on 23 October 2024 - introducing amendments to Regulation (EU) No 1379/2013, Regulation (EU) No 167/2013 and Regulation (EU) No 168/2013 as regards certain reporting requirements. This is a text with EEA relevance. Further information:In its Communication on Long-term competitiveness in the EU (2023), the European Commission stressed the importance of a regulatory system that ensures that objectives are reached at minimum costs. It therefore committed to a fresh push to rationalise and simplify reporting requirements to reduce the burden without undermining related policy aims. Reporting requirements are essential in ensuring correct enforcement and proper monitoring of legislation. Their costs are largely offset by the benefit they bring. However, they can also impose disproportionate burdens on stakeholders, particularly affecting SMEs and micro-companies. Organisational and technological developments also call for original requirements to be adjusted. In the context of the European Green Deal, this Directive seeks to rationalise reporting obligations in the area of common organisation of the markets in fishery and aquaculture products, thus affecting the fishing industry. It also aims to simplify and eliminate certain reporting obligations in the area of the approval and market surveillance of agricultural and forestry vehicles and two- or three-wheel vehicles and quadricycles. A draft text was adopted by the European Commission on 23 October 2023. The plenary of the European Parliament endorsed the text on 28 February 2024. The Council of the European Union adopted the text for a proposed Directive on 8 October. The Act was signed by the co-legislators on 23 October 2024 and published in the Official Journal on 7 November 2024. |
