Summary:Regulation (EU) 2024/2516 - adopted by the co-legislators on 18 September 2024 - introducing amendments to Regulation (EU) 2019/1009 as regards the digital labelling of EU fertilising products. This is a text with EEA relevance. Further information:Regulation (EU) 2019/1009 overhauled the rules relating to the presence of EU fertilising products on the market. It harmonised the requirements for fertilisers produced from phosphate minerals and from organic or secondary raw materials in the European Union (EU), and it also harmonised limits for a range of contaminants. The Act also introduces labelling requirements that are more extensive than the legislative framework it replaced. This reflected new social demands and concerns, as well as the opening of the market to products that are innovative and unknown. The amendments introduced by this Regulation address arising issues relating to the readability of labels and their management by economic operators. A draft law was adopted by the European Commission on 27 February 2023. The European Parliament's relevant committee adopted a negotiating position on the proposed text on 3 November. The Council of the European Union adopted its own general approach to the proposal on 17 November. An informal agreement between the co-legislators on a compromise text for this file was reached on 23 January 2024. This was formally adopted by the Parliament on 12 March and by the Council on 22 July. The Act was signed by the co-legislators on 18 September 2024 and published in the Official Journal on 30 September 2024. |
