Summary:Declaration signed by the institutions of the European Union (EU), recognising cycling as a sustainable, accessible and inclusive, affordable and healthy means of transport. Further information:This non-binding Declaration lists principles aimed at boosting cycling to guide future action in the EU. Clear commitments, better links with public transport, secure parking spaces, the deployment of charging points for e-bikes and bike highways connecting cities with rural areas, are seen as necessary to improve the quality, quantity, continuity and attractiveness of cycling infrastructure across all Member States. The Communication proposing a Declaration on Cycling was put forward by the European Commission on 4 October 2023. Following the review by the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament, the Declaration was published in the Official Journal on 3 April 2024. |
