	Summary: Directive (EU) 2024/1438 - adopted by the co-legislators on 14 May 2024 - introducing amendments to Council Directive 2001/110/EC, Council Directive 2001/112/EC, Council Directive 2001/113/EC and Council Directive 2001/114/EC as regards the marketing standards applicable to a number of agri-food products. Further information: The so-called Breakfast Directives lay down common rules on the composition, sales name, labelling and presentation of certain foodstuffs so as to protect the interests of consumers and to ensure the free movement of these products within the European Union's (EU) single market. Among others, the set includes Council Directive 2001/110/EC relating to honey, Council Directive 2001/112/EC relating to fruit juices and certain similar products, Council Directive 2001/113/EC relating to fruit jams, jellies and marmalades and sweetened chestnut purée, and Council Directive 2001/114/EC relating to partly or wholly dehydrated preserved milk. Over the years, the markets for foodstuffs evolved significantly, driven by innovation but also changing societal concerns and consumers' demand. This Directive seeks to address those changes against the backdrop of the European Commission's Farm to Fork (F2F) Strategy and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The proposed Directive was tabled by the European Commission on 21 April 2023. The Council of the European Union adopted its general approach to the text on 4 December. The plenary of the European Parliament endorsed a negotiating position for the proposal on 12 December. An informal agreement between the co-legislators on a compromise text for this file was reached on 30 January 2024. This was formally endorsed by Parliament on 10 April and by the Council on 29 April. The Act was signed by the co-legislators on 14 May 2024 and published in the Official Journal on 24 May 2024.
