Summary:Decision (EU) 2022/1163 - adopted by the co-legislators on 10 May 2023 - mobilising the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) in response to application EGF/2022/003 ES/Alu Ibérica. Further information:The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) aims to provide support for workers made redundant and self-employed persons whose activity has ceased as a result of major structural changes in world trade patterns due to globalisation, as a result of a continuation of the global financial and economic crisis, or as a result of a new global financial and economic crisis, and to assist them with their reintegration into the labour market. Spain submitted an application for a financial contribution from the EGF in November 2022, seeking to address displacements in aluminium producer Alu Ibérica based in Galicia. The dismissals resulted from the company's bankruptcy generated by increased energy and raw material prices. Following an assessment of this application, the European Commission concluded that the conditions for awarding a financial contribution from the EGF had been met. On 16 March 2023, the Commission adopted a draft Decision to allocate a financial contribution of around €1.2 million in respect of the application submitted by the Spanish authorities. This was endorsed by the plenary of the European Parliament on 9 May. The Act was signed by the co-legislators on 10 May 2023 and published in the Official Journal on 25 May 2023. |
