Summary:Set of conclusions adopted by the Council of the European Union on 18 July 2022, focusing on the twelfth (12th) Annual Report on EU Development Aid Targets, which was sent to the European Council. Further information:The report analyses trends with regard to commitments to and delivery of the European Union's official development assistance (ODA). ODA remains a major source of finance for the poorest countries. The Council notes that in 2021, the EU's collective ODA amounted to €70.2 billion, a nominal increase of 4.3% compared to the previous year. The EU and its Member States therefore maintained their position as the biggest global ODA provider, accounting for 43% of global ODA. In 2021, the EU's collective ODA represented o.49% of EU GNI, a slight decrease from the ratio of the previous year, but still higher than the average of the non-EU Members of the OECD. The Council highlights that it is urgent for the EU and its countries to take action towards achieving their collective commitments to provide 0.7% GNI as ODA and 0.20% as ODA to the least developed countries by 2030. This set of conclusions were adopted at a meeting of the Council of the European Union held on 18 July 2022. |
