Summary: Regulation (EU) 2022/972 - adopted by the Council of the European Union on 17 June 2022 - introducing amendments to Regulation (EU) 2021/2283 concerning the opening and management of autonomous tariff quotas of the European Union (EU) for certain agricultural and industrial products. Further information: Autonomous tariff quotas of the European Union (EU) are required for products whose production in the EU is insufficient to meet the needs of the user industry in the EU for a given quota period. In December 2021, the Council of the European Union adopted Regulation (EU) 2021/2283 opening and providing for the management of autonomous tariff quotas of the EU for certain agricultural and industrial products so that demand for the products in question could be met under the most favourable conditions. The Regulation is updated every six months to accommodate the needs of Union industry. The European Commission reviewed all requests from Member States for autonomous tariff quotas duties, and it considered that the opening of autonomous tariff quotas was justified for some new products, not listed in the Annex to Council Regulation (EU) 2021/2283. In relation to some other products the wording of the description needed to be changed, new TARIC codes to be assigned, or an increase of the initial quota volume became necessary. Products for which a tariff quota is no longer in the EU's economic interest were withdrawn. The draft Council Regulation was tabled by the European Commission on 5 May 2022. It was adopted by the Council of the European Union on 17 June 2022. The legal act was published in the Official Journal on 24 June 2022. |
