Abstract: Ensuring the balance of power in Europe has, since the inception of its republic, been a core security interest for the US. Today, and for the entire post-Cold War period, the challenges to the European peace have emerged along the line running roughly from the Baltic to the Black Sea. This is what we call the Eastern Front. The goal of the American Enterprise Institute in this podcast is to better inform the American people about what’s going on there. Episode 18 (featuring Maria Tomak): Maria Tomak, Head of National Office of the Crimea Platform, created under President Zelensky’s administration, joins Giselle, Dalibor, and Iulia from Lviv to discuss Putin’s possible war crimes in Ukraine. Maria updates The Eastern Front's hosts on what she’s hearing from Crimea and other captured territories in Ukraine. She compares Russia’s 2014 invasion of Crimea with the situation in Ukraine today, draws parallels between Russia’s actions in Syria and during the Chechen Wars, and outlines the argument for why Putin should be held accountable. |
