Summary: Set of conclusions adopted at a meeting of the Council of the European Union on 4 March 2022, concerning the fight against racism and antisemitism. Further information: In these conclusions, the Council deplores the rise in racist and anti-semitic incidents in Member States of the European Union (EU). It invites Member States to develop action plans and strategies by the end of 2022, implementing the 2020 EU anti-racism action plan and the 2021 EU strategy on combating antisemitism. The Council highlights the importance of education and training, and it also urges Member States to encourage media, social networks, and technology and communications sectors to adopt solutions to rapidly detect, assess and remove illegal online hate speech. The conclusions also address reporting and investigation of racist and antisemitic incidents, as well as the implementation of preventive measures and their assessment. The Council argues for a common methodology for quantifying and qualifying racial and antisemitic incidents. Finally, the conclusions also invite the European Commission to support all stakeholders in the fight against racism and anti-semitism. |
