Summary: Implementing Decision (EU) 2021/1781 - adopted by the Council of the European Union on 7 October 2021 - suspending certain provisions of Regulation (EU) No 810/2009 with respect to The Gambia. Further information: Regulation (EU) No 810/2009 establishes the procedures and conditions for issuing visas for transit through or intended stays in the territory of the EU Member States not exceeding three months in any six-month period. This Decision temporarily suspends the application of certain provisions of that Regulation to nationals of The Gambia. It was taken due to the country's lack of cooperation on readmission of third-country nationals illegally staying in the European Union (EU). The draft Decision was tabled by the European Commission on 15 July 2021, following an assessment under a new mechanism for using visa processing in cooperation with third countries on readmission. The Council adopted the draft law on 7 October. The Act was published in the Official Journal on 11 October 2021. |
