Summary: Regulation (EU) 2021/1701 - adopted by the European Union on 21 September 2021 - introducing amendments to Regulation (EU) 2020/2222 concerning the validity of safety certificates and licences of railway undertaking operating through the Channel Fixed Link. This is a text with EEA relevance. Further information: Regulation (EU) 2020/2222 lays down provisions for certain safety authorisations, safety certificates and licences of railway undertakings in the framework of the end of the transition period referred to in the Withdrawal Agreement between the United Kingdom (UK) and the European Union (EU). France notified the European Commission in November 2020 and June 2021 of a series of negotiations with the United Kingdom (UK) for an agreement regulating the use by rail undertakings of cross-border infrastructure linking the EU and the UK through the Channel Fixed Link when it comes to licences and safety certificates. Additional time was deemed required to complete the formal procedures for provisional application or entry into force of such agreements. As such, this amendment extends the period of validity of safety certificates and licences of railway undertakings operating through the Channel Fixed Link until 31 March 2022. The Act was signed by the co-legislators on 21 September 2021 and published in the Official Journal on 24 September 2021. |
