Summary: Council Decision (CFSP) 2021/509 - adopted by the Council of the European Union on 22 March 2021 - establishing a European Peace Facility (EPF) for the period 2021-2027. It also repeals Decision (CFSP) 2015/528. Further information The European Peace Facility is an off-budget instrument, aimed at filling a gap in the European Union's external action. It created one instrument to finance Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) actions in military and defence areas. It EPF replaces the Athena mechanism and the African Peace Facility. The off-budget fund covers a period of seven years - the duration of the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2021-2027. The proposal was adopted by the EU's High-Representative on 13 June 2018, with the support of the European Commission. The Council of the European Union adopted the proposed Decision at a meeting on 22 March 2021. The Decision was published in the Official Journal on 24 March 2021. The EPF became operational on 1 July 2021. |
