Summary: Regulation (EU) 2021/177 - formally signed by the co-legislators on 10 February 2021 - introducing a number of amendments to Regulation (EU) No 223/2014, also known as the FEAD Regulation. Further information: Regulation (EU) No 223/2014 sets up the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD), which aims to complement national poverty eradication programmes and social inclusion policies. This Regulation is for the financial period 2014-2020. The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic exacerbated to poverty situation across the European Union (EU). The Regulation allows Member States to continue to use the additional funds made available for post-COVID-19 recovery the REACT-EU initiative in 2021 and 2022, as part of the increased resources to cohesion policy under the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2014-2020. This proposal was put forward by the European Commission on 28 May 2020. The European Parliament's plenary session endorsed on 21 January 2021 an informal agreement previously reached between the co-legislators. Following formal endorsement by the Council of the European Union, the Act was signed by the co-legislators on 10 February 2021 and published in the Official Journal on 16 February 2021. |
