Summary:

A meeting of the Environment Council (ENV) was held on 17 December 2020. The agenda includes the following items:

• Adoption of general approach on the proposed European climate law;
• Adoption of Nationally Determined Contribution (NDCs) of the European Union and its Member States, in the framework of the Paris Agreement;
• Adoption of general approach on a proposal to amend the so-called Aarhus Regulation;

• Adoption of conclusions addressing the twin societal challenge of digital transformation and green transition;
• Exchange of views on the European Commission's Chemicals strategy for sustainability;
• Presentation by the European Commission of its proposal concerning batteries and waste batteries;
• Briefing on urgent action needed regarding the ratification of multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs);
• Presentation by the Portuguese Council Presidency of its priorities in relevant areas.
