Summary: Council Regulation (EU) 2020/1579 - formally adopted on 29 October 2020 - fixing for the commercially most important fish stocks in the Baltic Sea, the fishing opportunities for Member States for 2021. It also amends Regulation (EU) 2020/123 as regards certain fishing opportunities in other waters. Further information: Regulation (EU) 2020/123 sets the yearly total allowable catches (TACs) and quotas by fish stocks, as well as fishing effort levels in the different fishing areas in line with the objectives of the EU’s Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). The objective of the proposal is to fix, for the commercially most important fish stocks in the Baltic Sea, the fishing opportunities for Member States for 2021. With a view to simplifying and clarifying the annual TAC and quota decisions, fishing opportunities in the Baltic Sea have been fixed by a separate Regulation since 2006. The European Commission tabled the proposal on 28 August 2020. The Council of the European Union reached an agreement on the catch limits on 20 October. The Act was published in the Official Journal on 30 October 2020. |
