Summary: Communication published by the European Commission on 9 July 2020, setting out an overview of changes occurring to cross-border exchanges between the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK) following the end of the transition period on 31 December. Further information: The United Kingdom left the European Union on 31 January 2020, following the ratification of a Withdrawal Agreement which also provided for a transition period. This Communication covers the main areas where there will be changes after the conclusion of that period, regardless of the outcome of the EU-UK negotiations on the future relationship. It sets out measures that national authorities, businesses and citizens should take in order to be ready for those changes. This guidance does not seek to prejudge the outcome of negotiations, and changes are to occur irrespective of whether an agreement has been concluded or not. This Communication does not examine the possible implications of a failure to reach such agreement, nor does it consider the need for contingency measures. In parallel, the Commission also announced the review and (where needed) update of its 102 stakeholder notices - the list of more than 50 updated readiness notices is in annex to the Communication and they are also available on a dedicated website. |
