Summary: The annual meeting of the ACP-EU Council of Minister was held on 23-24 May 2019. Further information: Ministers from the European Union (EU) and the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries discussed the implementation of the ACP-EU partnership agreement, known as the Cotonou agreement. A Decision was adopted to delegate powers to the ACP-EU Committee of Ambassadors to adopt transitional measures until a new Partnership Agreement comes into force, should a deal not be reached until the expiry date of the existing framework (February 2020). At the meeting, there was an exchange of views on how to strengthen cooperation in international fora, as well as a discussion on climate change and ocean governance. Ministers also discussed issues relating to migration and the economy. Finally, ministers had an informal exchange on the relations between the EU and the ACP countries post 2020. |
