Further information: Climate change and the potential for an EU army were growing issues during the Irish electoral campaign. According to estimated results, governing Fine Gael party became the strongest force with 29, 59%. Conservative Fianna Fáil had 16,55%, left-wing nationalist Sinn Féin (SF) had 11, 68% just ahead of the Green party with 11,37%, while the Independents took 23,92% of the vote. Sinn Féin MEP Liadh Ní Riada sought a recount of votes in the Ireland South constituency as she was just over 300 votes behind the Greens' Senator, Grace O'Sullivan. |
