Summary: Annual report - published by the Council of the European Union in May 2019 - relating to the implementation of Regulation 1049/2001 regarding public access to documents. Further information: The seventeenth annual report - relating to activity in 2018 - identifies the main trends and features of requests for access to Council documents and reviews complaints to the Ombudsman as well as rulings given by the European Courts in cases concerning the institutions' implementation of the regulation. It shows that nearly 400,000 documents were listed in the public register on 31 December 2018. Of these documents, more than 70% are public and available for download. Over 25,000 original-language documents were added to the register, of which 71% became public. The Council's public register was consulted approximately 477 500 times. In 2018, the Council received 2 474 initial requests for access to documents and 29 confirmatory applications, requiring the analysis of 7 930 documents. Article 17(1) of Regulation 1049/2001 on access to documents establishes that each institution has to publish an annual report on the implementation of the Regulation for the preceding year. The 17th annual report was approved by the Council on 22 May 2019. |
