Summary: Communication presented on 30 April 2019 by the European Commission setting out its contribution to an informal European Council meeting in May 2019. Further information: The Communication features a number of policy recommendations for how the European Union can shape its future in an increasingly multipolar and uncertain world. In March 2017 - ahead of the 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome - the Commission published its White Paper on the Future of Europe. The document outlines five potential scenarios for the EU future and aimed at being the starting point for a debate on the future of the European Union. In September 2017 - during the annual State of the Union address - the President of the European Commission unveiled a roadmap to build on the existing debate and urged EU leaders to meet in Sibiu in May 2019 to mark the culmination of this process with a renewed commitment to the European Union. Alongside this Communication, the Commission also published a series of annexes and the key conclusions from the public consultation launched in the framework of the debate on the future of Europe. |
