Summary: The 16th meeting of the EU-Azerbaijan Cooperation Council was held on 4 April 2019. Further information: Azerbaijan and the European Union reviewed cooperation since the previous Cooperation Council. Both sides noted the intensification of bilateral relations with negotiations on a new agreement and the adoption of Partnership Priorities. The Council took stock of the implementation of these priorities and more broadly of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA). It also reviewed Azerbaijan's participation in the Eastern Partnership. The EU and Azerbaijan addressed challenges to democracy, the rule of law, human rights and fundamental freedoms. The Cooperation Council also discussed positive developments in relation to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and regional issues, trade and sectoral cooperation, including on transport. Finally, the two sides exchanged views on cooperation in the energy sector. |
