Summary: Council Decision of 15 April 2019 allocating funds to ensure the financing of the African Peace Facility (APF) for the period 2019-2020. Further information: The African Peace Facility (APF) was first established in 2003 within the framework of the Cotonou Agreement and is funded by the European Development Fund (EDF), which is outside the general budget of the Union. The APF has become one of the key instruments to implement the Africa-EU cooperation on peace and security. Under the 11th EDF, the EU has so far committed a total of €1,627.3 million to the APF to provide financial support to African Union responses to ongoing and emerging security crises in Africa. This engagement in peace and security on the African continent should be sustained for the period 2019-2020. APF requirements for the period 2019-2020 are estimated at €814,860,000. It is therefore appropriate to use decommitted funds from projects under the 10th EDF to ensure the financing of the APF up to the end of 2020. |
