Summary: DiscoverEU is an initiative set up by the European Union which aims to provide travel and mobility opportunities for young people turning 18 years old. The initiative includes a travel pass offered to the selected youngsters by the European Union, which allows them to travel for a minimum of 1 day and up to 1 month. They should visit at least one Member State in the European Union other than their country of residence. Further information: The initiative aims to enable young people to take advantage of the freedom of movement in the European Union, discover the diversity of European regions, enjoy its cultural richness, and connect with people from all over the continent. At the same time, they will have the chance to learn more about themselves, gain self-confidence and improve key competencies such as problem-solving and foreign language skills. DiscoverEU is an initiative originally requested by the European Parliament and was launched in June 2018 with a budget of €12 million. The first round of the initiative offered around 15,000 young people the opportunity to travel around the European Union between July and October 2018. In May 2018, the Commission proposed €700 million for DiscoverEU as part of the Erasmus+ programme under the EU's Multiannual Financial Framework for the period 2021-2027. |
