Summary: Council Decision of 21 May 2019 on the composition of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). Further information: Article 301 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) provides that the number of members of the EESC shall not exceed 350. The withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union would result in 24 vacant seats in the Committee. The current term of office of the European Economic and Social Committee will come to an end on 20 September 2020. Therefore, it is necessary that the Council decides on the composition of the Committee before the launch of the procedure for the renewal of the Committee for the period 2020-2025. |
