The Tangled Complexity of the EU Constitutional Process: On Complexity as a Constitutional Theory of the EU

Summary:

The aim of this article is to present constitutional complexity as a theory able to describe the increasing constitutionalization of the EU and the ‘efficient secret’ of the European Constitution.

The article firstly specifies what is meant by European Constitution, it then introduces the notion of constitutional complexity. The final section of the article considers some important factors that should be taken into account when comparing constitutional complexity to other constitutional theories of European integration, namely constitutional pluralism and multilevel constitutionalism.
