The 39th ALDE Party Congress was held in Madrid on 8-10 November 2018.

Further information:

At the meeting, party leaders officially announced the formation of a coalition with the French En Marche movement ahead of the 2019 European Parliament elections.

It was also said the party would not select a single lead candidate (spitzenkandidat) to challenge those chosen by the main political groups. Instead, ALDE hoped to present a set of up to nine figures as the frontline for the forthcoming election.
