The Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA), in partnership with Cardiff University, formed a project in 2018 to help the third sector better engage with and influence the Brexit debate.

The project aimed to:

+ connect third sector organisations and leading industry experts to stimulate informed debate and discussion
+ enable groups and experts to share knowledge
+ develop shared third sector positions and take coordinated action where relevant

As part of the project a Wales Civil Society Forum on Brexit was established. The purpose of the Forum was to get a clear steer from members on their key areas of Brexit interest, what their main concerns were and what they wanted to influence. This would help guide the direction of the project and its activities.

Areas of interest to members of the Forum included:

+ Equality and human rights
+ EU funding and research
+ Immigration policy and migrant communities
+ Environmental rights and protections
