Communication on ‘Aviation: open and connected Europe’

Summary:

The European Commission adopted on 8 June 2017 a legislative package which aims to deliver on its Aviation Strategy for Europe. This Communication provides the context to that set of measures.

The legislative package aims to safeguar competition and connectivity in aviation, facilitate investments in European airlines and enhance the efficiency and connectivity of European skies.

The 'Open and Connected Aviation' package includes four initiatives, which deliver on two core priorities of the Aviation Strategy for Europe:

+ Proposal for a Regulation on safeguarding competition in air transport, repealing Regulation (EC) No 868/2004;
+ Interpretative guidelines on ownership and control of EU airlines;
+ Interpretative guidelines on public services obligations;
+ Practices facilitating continuity of air traffic management.
