Many Bulgarians have moved to the UK since the early-2000s, but as Maria Koinova noted, little research had been conducted on their views on life in Britain. Drawing on a new survey of Bulgarians in London, she wrote that the Bulgarian community was notably different from the way it had been portrayed in the British media.

It had many highly educated people, as well as low-skilled migrants, and most of them were employed. There also appeared to be no excessive worry about individual prospects after Brexit, although Bulgarians in London report increased discrimination, and were aware that life outside the capital might be more challenging for other Bulgarians.
