United Kingdom Prime Minister Theresa May gave a speech in Belfast, Northern Ireland on the 20 July 2018. In the speech she will set out her commitment to the Union (of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and to a Brexit that worked for the whole United Kingdom - one which avoided a hard border and protected the Belfast Agreement. She emphasised her personal commitment to the strength of the UK’s four nations and the solutions set out in the White Paper of July 2018 that addressed Northern Ireland’s unique circumstances. Mrs May said it was time for the EU to drop what she believed was its inflexible view on an Irish border solution to break the Brexit talks impasse. |
