The United Kingdom's House of Lords EU Select Committee launched in March 2018 a short inquiry into the future UK-EU relationship. Background information During March 2018 the UK Government, the European Council and the European Parliament set out their initial positions on the nature of the post-Brexit future UK-EU relationship: + The UK Prime Minister’s Mansion House speech of 2 March 2018, supplemented by her speech at the Munich Security Conference on 17 February 2018, and the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s HSBC speech on financial services on 7 March. + The European Council guidelines, published on 7 March 2018 and agreed at the 23 March European Council (EU 27) meeting. + The European Parliament resolution on the framework of the future EU-UK relationship, also published on 7 March 2018, and adopted by the European Parliament on 14 March 2018. Issues to be considered The Committee's inquiry on the future UK-EU relationship would consider: + What areas should be covered in the framework for future relations, to be agreed in October 2018? Further information Separately, the National Assembly for Wales: External Affairs and Additional Legislation Committee, carried out an inquiry into Wales’ future relationship with Europe. A Part 1 report was published in March 2018. |
