Iran, Turkey and Russia meet for Syria summit

The Turkish, Iranian and Russian presidents met in Ankara (Turkey) for the second time in six months. They pledged to accelerate efforts to bring stability to Syria, underlining their joint commitment to the country. This was annonced a day after the President of the United States raised the prospect of withdrawing the troops.

Differences remained regarding which side to support in the conflict - Iran and Russia have both strongly supported the Syrian president, while Turkey backed rebels fighting the regime. However, an agreement was found on winding down some of the violence still in place.

Reports on a meeting held on 4 April 2018, bringing together the leaders of Iran, Russia and Turkey for high-level discussions on the situation in Syria.
