Health Law in Europe: From the Present to the Future

Abstract:

This article deals with the development of health law in Europe, and in particular with its future: what challenges are waiting us and are we able to cope with them?

After identifying what makes health law different from other disciplines, the first part discusses how it has developed and where we stand now, both at the national and at the European level.

The second part focuses on the future. After touching upon a number of societal developments and the increasing ‘Europeanisation’ and globalisation of health issues, it addresses the question how we should anticipate the challenges ahead.
