Coming into the Cold: Asia’s Arctic Interests

Abstract:

This policy brief addresses questions about Arctic gov- ernance through a study of the Arctic interests of four Asian states (China, Japan, Singapore, South Korea) and how three Arctic states (USA, Russia, and Norway) are meeting this increased interest. While both the more novel and longstanding Arctic interests of Asian states have been sufficiently mapped out elsewhere, the reactions of Arctic states to this rising interest have remained understudied.
